Irdc: One of the important international occasions, whith vital influence on the world power geometry, was the US embassy takeover in Iran, which was the prime mover of changes in politics, international relations and norms. It humiliated the United States in front of the whole world and started the decline of US arrogance in the world. We'll review some political consequences of the incident for the United States.

US Foreign Policy dead end after the embassy takeover

The first consequence was political disappointment. Giulietto Chiesa writes: "Herzberg, the writer of Carter's important speeches acknowledges that I feel worried that we are going down, or stuck in a dead end".

Pierre Salinger also asks: "How it is possible that the world's biggest power finds itself under influence of a country dealing with revolutionary disorder"?

US authorities confession

Cyrus Vance believes that the embassy takeover was the beginning of a painful story for US nation. William Dagerty in a CNN interview states that "When your countries is so humiliated, the way we (the embassy staff) were...that's the kind of thing one remembers"

Hamilton Jordan, in the book "Crisis, the Last year of Carter Presidency" acknowledges that Americans were humiliated after the embassy takeover.

Jimmy Carter expressed that the US prestige in his final years in administration, depended on Ayatollah Khomeini’s actions, and when the US government prohibited the book series including documents from Den of Spies in United States, it was clear to all the political analysts that the embassy takeover was one of the greatest moves to reveal the real face of the White House and weakening US foreign policy in the region.

After Carter presidency, when democrats gained power, they published their diaries, and mentioned the dimentions of this huge political incident directly or indirectly.

The embassy takeover influence on US presidential election

The US domestic policy and even the election was so influenced by the embassy takeover, and Spiegel wrote in 1980: "There was a time that the United States decided who got into power, and now in 1980, an Ayatollah in Tehran can figure out the fate of US election".

US normative authority collapse

Translation and distribution of embassy documents showed the world that the United States not only violated Iranian human rights, but also had always interfered in its domestic affairs in opposition to international regulations. Publication of the documents, collapsed the normative and legal authority of United States and changed America's international image. Americans were more afraid that their invincibility was demythologized, than the fact that their collusions against Islamic Revolution was revealed.

Regaining Iranian self steem

The humiliation of Iranian society in Pahlavi era, had turned into national and international honor after revolutionary changes and US embassy takeover. Micheal Fisher believed that one of the purposes of the students in embassy takeover, was to make the political movement to move faster in order to keep the revolution in the right road.

The national steem is recognized from the diaries of the student followers of Imam's line. Seyyed Muhammad Hashempour Yazdanparast says: "The moment the US flag was taken down for ever, after years of domination of the United States, the most criminal anti human organization in human history, was one of the most unique and brilliant moments in Iran's history"

After 60 years of being humiliated by Americans, a dignified nation rised through the Islamic Revolution, collapsing America's fake power and dignity.
